Visa D - long-term employment for 1-3 years
A single residence and work permit for workers on contracts of one to three years - renewable by mutual agreement.
Overview
Long-term employment requires a labour contract with a minimum duration of one year and a maximum of three. The worker receives a work permit and a Bulgarian residence card for the duration of the active contract - up to 3 years.
When the contract expires, and with the agreement of both parties, both the contract and the worker's stay can be extended - making this the most stable route for building a lasting team.
Since 31 March 2024, Bulgaria issues unified Schengen visas, valid throughout the entire Schengen area.
How the process works

Document preparation
We collect and prepare the complete package: criminal record certificate with apostille, address declaration, labour contract, qualification diplomas where the position requires them, and all supporting documents.

Employment Agency review
The Employment Agency reviews the package and within approximately 2 months issues its opinion on granting the worker access to the Bulgarian labour market - the work permit.

Visa D application
With a positive opinion, the worker applies for a Visa D at the Bulgarian embassy in their country, after scheduling an interview appointment.

Arrival and registration
Within a week of landing in Sofia, the worker visits the Migration Office together with a company representative to apply for an ID card and residence permit, then registers with the National Revenue Agency and starts work.
